Company: British Gas India
Package: 9 (LPA)
College: 1, 2001
Branch: 1

Pattern of Written Test

There was an online verbal and Data interpretation exam after which thirty-one guys got selected out of sixty-one students in our branch.. The next stage was a technical interview which mainly involved questions from Drilling, Production and Reservoir concepts in the Petroleum field. On the basis of this twelve students were selected for the final" Assessment Round". The Assessment round comprised five rounds and was of six hours duration. It involved two team effort exercises, a written exam to test one's English efficiency , a group discussion round and a HR interview round. On the basis of above two students finally got selected in British Gas. I was the third ranker of my department when I got selected. The other person who got selected was the fifth ranker of our department.
OGPA played a major role in the selection along with my communication skills. There was no clear cut basis for selection as the selection process comprised everything from technical interview to HR interview, Group discussions round, English proficiency tests.10th and 12th board marks also played a major role along with yor third year project or internship. Majority of my technical interview questions were based on my project work .

Pattern of Group Discussion

yes there was a gd.

Technical Interview

The questions mainly revolved around my third year internship at Cairn Energy India. I had worked on a project called" Production Monitoring and Surveillance tools". I was also asked questions on my second year project " Hydraulic Fracturing of CBM wells".There were also some general questions about Geology, Geophysics and Reservoir engineering aspects of the Petroleum field.

HR Interview

I was initially asked to tell something about myself which was not mentioned in my CV.I was then asked about my hobbies and if I have done any work for the society together with any team effort of which I was a part of.

Suggestion

none.

1) Maintain your ogpa above 8.00. Rank doesn't matter after that.
2)Work on a good project during your second and third year. It is not the no. of projects that matter but the quality of projects that matter.
3)Work on your English efficiency.
4)When in interview do not try to fool the interviewers by answering out of track as they may not show any expression on their face but they will know it in their heart.

My gpa and my projects worked in my favor. My communication skills also helped me in this process as I won the GD round during our Assessment Center procedure. . And above all there was also a bit of luck involved, it being the first company to visit our campus.
