Pattern of Written Test

Tata Steel has opted to select students on the basis of performance during Summer Internship Program. Students from various campuses are selected for internship at the end of third year through interviews. This year they also conducted a written test for the same.

HR Interview

At the time of interview for selection for the internship program, the first question was-Tell me about yourself ?( This is rather the first question in most of the interviews). Through this question they want to know about your background in brief and most importantly, your qualities or traits.An ideal answer would be to give a 2 liner introduction about yourself (your native place, where have u done your schooling etc) followed by your passions, aspirations & aim in life.
Rest of the interview was based on the technical questions related to my branch.
My interview lasted for around 20 min.
During managerial competency assessment, there was a half an hour interview about the recent events that changed your life. Through this they want to know how your life is shaped, troubles you faced and overcome, moral values etc.

Other

During internship each student is assigned a live project which is periodically assessed by the company officials. At the end of the internship we had a Managerial Competency Assessment test which consisted of a half an hour interview about the events that changed our lives followed by a strategy planning and a role playing game.
From my college 12 students were selected for the internship program out of which 6 were given the PPO.

Suggestion

Be well informed about your subjects. Latest development in your field( Mining students particularly, if they know basics about some mine planning or other software packages, that could give an edge)
Try to highlight the research work if any, you've done in your field. You should be able to cite examples for your strengths or weaknesses. So, be honest..
